At Utafiti Wellness Research Association (UWRA), we believe that sustainable health transformation requires a vibrant, skilled, and diverse workforce of researchers, practitioners, and leaders. Our Internship and Career Development Program is designed to nurture emerging talent, providing hands-on experience, mentorship, and professional growth opportunities for individuals passionate about community health, research translation, and evidence-based action.

The program offers a range of pathways for individuals at different stages of their career journey. Whether you are a recent graduate seeking practical experience, a young professional looking to deepen your skills in a specific area, or a community member eager to contribute your knowledge and time, UWRA offers opportunities to learn, grow, and make a meaningful contribution to health equity in Africa.

Upon successful completion of your internship or practicum, you will receive a certificate of completion and a letter of recommendation that highlights your contributions and skills.

Eligibility & application process

We welcome applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences who are passionate about community health, research translation, and evidence-based action.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Research Internships: Open to recent graduates (within 2 years) with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in public health, health sciences, social sciences, or a related field. Strong academic record and demonstrated interest in health research are required.
  • Professional Practicums: Open to graduate students and mid-career professionals seeking to develop specialized skills. Relevant experience and a clear learning objective are required.
  • Volunteer Opportunities: Open to individuals of all backgrounds who are willing to contribute their time and skills. No formal qualifications are required; however, a commitment to UWRA's mission and values is essential.
  • General Requirements: All applicants must demonstrate strong communication skills, a collaborative spirit, a commitment to equity and inclusion, and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural setting.

Application Process

The application process is designed to be transparent and accessible. We encourage all interested individuals to apply through our online application portal.

  1. Submit an online application: Complete the application form on our website, including your personal details, educational background, relevant experience, and a statement of interest.
  2. Provide supporting documents: Upload your current CV or resume, a cover letter explaining your interest in UWRA and your specific program preferences, and academic transcripts (for internship and practicum applicants).
  3. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview with the program team. The interview is an opportunity for us to learn more about you and for you to ask questions about UWRA and the program.
  4. Offer and Onboarding: Successful candidates will receive a formal offer letter and will be guided through an onboarding process that includes orientation, training, and the development of a professional development plan.

Application Deadlines: Internship and practicum applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with priority given to applications received by January 15 (for the spring cohort) and July 15 (for the fall cohort). Volunteer opportunities are open year-round.
